Participant Involvement
Participants will be given a Food Waste Guide (FWG), a small, spiral bound book, that is filled with about 30 pages of fun illustrations and jaw-dropping facts about food waste. The FWG was created and designed by the researcher to be an interactive book -- it outlines three easy and practical food waste-reduction "Actions" you can try out each week during the three-week study period. (An example of a food waste-reduction Action provided in the FWG is storing your fruits and vegetables properly to extend their freshness.)
The tips in the Food Waste Guide will save you money and time, and you'll be helping to save the environment and help reduce hunger!
Participants will be required to fill out a brief online pre- and post-survey, and provide some responses about your experience with the Food Waste Guide. After the study is finished, the Food Waste Guide is yours to keep!
The Ending Food Waste Study will begin in mid-February and ends in early March, 2017. You can read a more detailed estimation of the minimal time requirements below.

Time Commitment
The study was designed to be user-friendly and to minimize impact on your weekly food shopping and food preparation habits and schedules.
1. Confirm interest in participating in this study by contacting the researcher by February 13, 2017 via the Contact page on this site. [takes <1 minute]
[Researcher will then provide you access to the links to complete the actions below]
2. Read and sign Participant Consent Form [takes about 3 minutes]
3. Complete an online Pre-Survey [takes about 10 minutes]
4. Read Food Waste Guide [takes about 20 minutes]
5. Try out 3 Food Waste Reduction "Actions" (total) outlined in the Food Waste Guide over the course of 3 weeks (mid-Feb through early March)
- This means, you will experience one Action (e.g. trying a new method of storing fresh herbs, or freezing portions of big batches of food or leftovers, etc) per week. [varies: 5 minutes - 30 minutes]
- After trying out each Action, you will complete a brief self-report about their experience either by submitting a written statement via this website or by hand-writing a response in the space provided in the Food Waste Guide. [takes about 5 minutes]
- If you choose to hand-write a response, you will need to take a picture of the response with your phone's camera feature and email it to [email protected], so the researcher can read your responses.
6. Complete an online Post-Survey [takes 20-40 minutes]
7. Wait to hear if your name has been drawn to win a $50 gift card!
